Centre freshmen rate highly at district judging

The Centre High School freshmen FFA team finished first overall Nov. 19 at the South Central District and Earl Wineiger Invitational Dairy Cattle Judging in Hillsboro.

Finishing in the individual top 10 were Brian Burhoop, first; Cole Svoboda, third; Tori Marler, fifth; Amanda Floyd, ninth; and Tanner Brunner, 10th. Additional freshman judgers were Adam Matz, Ripley Howard, Tyler Klenda, Ben Baker, Casey Kristek and Rustyn Kerbs. Brandon Albrecht, Jared Diepenbrock and Ryan Richmond rounded out the ?A? team.

The South Central District Dairy Foods Career Development Event was also hosted Nov. 19 in Hillsboro. During the event, students were tested on their knowledge of dairy products by tasting milk for flavor and quality, identifying cheeses, distinguishing natural and artificial dairy products, and other components of dairy production.

In the Greenhand Division, Centre placed first. Svoboda placed first and Burhoop fourth individually. Other freshmen competitors were Marler, Baker, Floyd, Matz, Howard, Klenda and Kristek.

The senior A team placed fourth in the event. Team members were Brandon Albrecht, Savik Howard, Kristine Jirak, and Ryan Richmond.

Brunner, Baker and Diepenbrock participated on the senior B team. Brunner placed sixth overall as a freshman competing with upper-level students.
