Centre FFA members and advisors attended the 85th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 23 through Oct. 27.

During the convention, said Laura Klenda, advisor, members listened to keynotes by Olympic figure skater and cancer survivor Scott Hamilton and spokesperson for the Indiana?polis Colts Josh Bleill.

?Fifteen FFA members also attended the leadership workshops to sharpen their leadership and character skills,? she said.

This year?s theme was ?Grow,? which was incorporated throughout the event and will be the theme for the remainder of the school year, Klenda said.

Members also participated in the nationwide service activity, ?FFA Rally to Fight Hunger? where 1,005,048 meals were packaged.

?The FFA Rally to Fight Hunger will help feed children and adults suffering from food insecurity,? she said, ?and launches the organization?s ?Feeding the World-Starting at Home? initiative aimed at reducing hunger in the United States and around the world.?

Some 10,000 members, advisers and volunteers from across the country worked together in hour-long shifts over a three-day period at Lucas Oil Stadium.

?Working with Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization, FFA members assembled over one million meals to provide relief from hunger and malnutrition.?

Half of the meals will be distributed through Gleaners Food Bank in Central Indiana with the other half sent overseas to fight hunger in Haiti.

?FFA members demonstrated their personal commitment to ?Living to Serve? by volunteering for this unprecedented convention and expo service event,? she said.

Next year?s convention will move back to Louisville, Ky., at the end of October and beginning of November.
