The Centre FFA Chapter hosted the James Weber Memorial Fishing Derby Sept. 23 at Fr. Padilla Park in Herington. Sixteen fishermen participated in the derby, which ran from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A total of 18 fish were caught and the biggest one was 16 inches long. In the 6-9-year-old age group, Lacey Hancock caught four fish, which won her a prize for the most caught, and Kandace Huber caught the biggest fish, measuring 14 inches. In the 10-12-years-old age group, Brent Mercer caught the most and the biggest fish with four fish and 16 inches—by default winning the most fish caught. Anthony Potocnik caught a 12-inch fish that earned him the biggest fish prize for the age group. Bait was provided by The Bait Bucket out of Marion. Prizes of fishing poles and tackle were given to the group winners. All participants received a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream sponsored by Kay’s Pharmacy.
