Centre FFA competes at nationals

Centre High School FFA members traveled to Indian?apolis, Ind., for the national convention Oct. 24 to 27.

Kristine Jirak placed in the bronze division in the Prepared Public Speaking Career Development Event with a speech about ethanol and its effect on agriculture. She is the daughter of Francis and Mary Jirak of rural Tampa.

Andy Carlson was a finalist for the FFA Proficiency Award in Home and/or Community Development. Carlson was one of four people chosen to compete for the award after winning the Kansas state competition earlier this year.

For the award, Carlson was involved in all aspects of the construction of the Lincolnville Community Building. He is the son of Glenn and Sandy Carlson.

Other chapter members who attended the convention were Ben Baker, Brian Burhoop, Nellie Hill, Ripley Howard, Casey Kristeck, Katie Remy, Ryan Richmond, Julie Rziha, Sammi Seifert, Allison Shields, Cole Svoboda and Benjamin Wirtz.
