Centre entries fare well at state FFA

Members representing the Centre FFA Chapter all placed among the top five in the events in which they were entered at the 83rd Kansas FFA Conven?tion, May 31 to June 3, in Manhattan.

The Parliamentary Procedure team made the final round and placed fourth in the state. Team members were Tanner Brunner, Brian Burhoop, Cole Svoboda, Theo Kassebaum, Carrie Carl?son, Bryanna Svoboda and Makenzie Deines, alternate.

Kassebaum also competed in the Prepared Public Speaking Career Development event and qualified for the final round.

?The topic of her speech was ?Free Trade,? and she placed third overall in the state,? said Laura Klenda, CHS ag education instructor and FFA adviser.

Kevin Lewis competed in the Creed Speaking CDE, qualifying for the final round and placed first.

?He presented the creed as the state winner at the opening session of the convention June 1,? she said. ?Kevin will be representing Centre at the National FFA Convention Creed Speaking CDE in October in Indianapolis, Ind.?

Carrie Carlson, past chapter reporter, and several other members put together a scrapbook to submit in the state competition, which placed fourth.

Dani Spohn was a member of the convention chorus, joining the rest of the choir for practices before convention and two performances during the third and sixth sessions.

Chapter members who received their state FFA degree were Spohn and Methvin.

Other members in attendance at the state FFA convention included Tom Oborny, Jerami Slayden, Justin Deines and Ty Simons.
