Area pianists compete at district event

Twenty-three area students participated in the District 6 Kansas Music Teachers Association Music Progressions at Bethel College, North Newton, April 1.

This annual event evaluates the progressive growth of all students?those studying music as a hobby or those wishing to be professional musicians.

In addition to performing on the piano, each student is tested in areas of listening, keyboard theory and written theory.

The adjudicators were: Steve Gustafson, McPher?son; Sheila Litke, Hillsboro; and Deborah Toews, Wichita.

Students participating from this area were Jordyn Buhler, Jada Childs, Sarah Diener, Hadley Hageman, Sara Harms, Jenna Hiner?man, Maggie Leaf, Paxton Leaf, Anna Lubbers, Abbey McGowan, Eva Noble, Sarah Pham, Stacey Pham, Han?nah Steckline, McKynlee Steckline, Nathan Steckline, Veronica Stockton, Katelyn Sundquist, Audrey Tozier, Elaina Tozier, Marieke van Begeijk, Natalia Varpness and Cora Yoder.

Newton Music Teachers Association and area piano teachers involved in this event were: Karla Conner, Newton; Lillian Harms, Moundridge; Brett Janssen, McPherson; Carol Kling?en?berg, Peabody; Sheila Litke, Hillsboro; Beverly Richards, Hillsboro and Faith Wenger, Hesston.
