After-school accident a reminder for all drivers to pay attention to safety

MarionAccident466.jpg

MarionAccident466.jpg Two Marion High School students driving in separate vehicles collided Friday shortly after school was dismissed. The accident happened at the corner of Freeborn and East Main Street. Although both drivers were not injured, one of the teenagers was taken to St. Luke Hospital in Marion to be checked out. The mishap did offer Marion Chief of Police Josh Whitwell an opportunity to talk about general rules of the road. Young drivers, particularly, he said, need to pay attention to their surroundings and ?buckle up.? In addition to those basic rules, another contributing factor that can lead to accidents is trying to text messages on cell phones while driving. With the school year just getting started, students are encourged to focus on driving when behind the wheel.
