n Heavy rains last Wednes?day night, particularly to the west of Hillsboro, caused the South Cottonwood River to overflow its banks on Thursday. Rainfall reports in Hillsboro ranged from 3 to 5 inches.

n Rolland ?Bay? Lawrence, a Tabor College standout football player from the early 1970s who went on to become an all-pro in the National Football League, had his Bluejay jersey retired at Tabor?s homecoming game with Friends University. In January, Lawrence was inducted into the National Association of Inter?collegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.

n Cell-phone users in the Hillsboro area can look forward to better reception with the anticipated erection of a new Alltel tower on the north edge of town.
