n JoAnn Knak, Hillsboro, is planning to retire after 22 years as director of Marion County Emergency Medical Services. He last day will be Dec. 19. She plans to continue to take calls for the Hillsboro EMS crew after she steps down, teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid, give talks to community and civic groups, work as assistant coroner with the county deputy coroner and work for the state as an examiner for emergency-care candidates.

n Charitable organizations from four communities in Marion County received checks totaling $8,150 Saturday from the planner s of the 10th annual Marion County Toy Run that was held Nov. 1. The communities of Peabody, Goessel, Marion and Hillsboro were represented.

n Customers of Ampride in Marion celebrated the good fortune of customer Art Davis, 50, of Bennington, who won $100,000 the day after purchasing $5 worth of Kansas Lottery Powerball tickets on Oct. 15 at the Marion store. The celebration included a barbecue meal on Nov. 15 arranged by local store manager Paula Wyss and Laura Legg, Ampride supervisor for Marion and Hillsboro stores. About 30 people attended.

n Tabor College and Hesston College signed two articulation agreements Nov. 18. Beginning with the Hesston College graduating class of 2001, Tabor will accept the associate of science degree as meetings Tabor?s lower-level general education requirements for its program.

n The Tabor College football team was thumped by North?western Oklahoma State University, 63-21, in their NAIA playoff game in Alva, Okla. It was the first playoff appearance in Tabor?s football history. Freshman quarterback Ricky Ishida scored all three Tabor touchdowns.

n The Tabor volleyball team lost to Doane College in the Bluejays? first trip to the NAIA Region IV tournament in program history. The score of the first-round matchup was 23-30, 22-30, 17-30.
