n The Marion County Health Department reported it should receive enough flu vaccine to immunize at-risk residents and perhaps others. A national shortage developed when a leading manufacturer of the vaccine in Britain closed its doors.

n Michelle Melton and Dustin Dalke were as Hillsboro High School faculty ?king? and ?queen? of this year?s homecoming week. For the more traditional student coronation, Amy Duerksen and Westie Magnuson were selected.

Ten years ago

n Marsha Helmer, 45, and daughter Marsha, 17, of Marion, were killed Friday when their car collided with a semi-truck at the intersection of Nighthawk and U.S. Highway 56.

n Anthony Clegg, 13, of Lincolnville died of injuries he received Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident involving five Marion County teenagers. The other four teenagers were hospitalized. The accident occurred at the intersection of Pawnee Road and 270th.

n Jesse Hamm was crowned king and Jacey Boese queen at this year?s Hillsboro High School homecoming. HHS lost the football game to Wichita Collegiate, 17-12, in a battle of undefeated teams.

n A benefit meal for 12-year-old Kevin Franzen raised about $4,000, less expenses. The rural Goessel boy underwent a rare brain operation to relieve seizures he had been experiencing since a 1991 car accident.

n HHS senior Staci Thurston earned a berth in the Class 3-2-1A state tennis tournament by taking second place at the regional event in Hillsboro.
