Five years ago

n Marion County commissioners signed a final agreement that enables the cleanup of the old landfill southwest of Marion to Kansas Department of Health and Environment standards.

n The Tabor College men?s and women?s track teams each finished second at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference track meet in Winfield.

n The James Thomas Invita?tional was rained out for the second consecutive year.

Ten years ago

n A redbud tree was planted on the grounds of the Marion County Courthouse as part of a statewide effort promoted by the Kansas State Historical Society to observe the state?s 150th anniversary of U.S. territorial status.

n The Hillsboro Community Planning & Development Com?mission approved the revised final plat for Unit 1 of the Prairie Pointe housing development on the city?s east side.

n Larry Nikkel was inaugurated Sunday as the 12th president of Tabor College.

n Planners for the 1999 Chingawassa Days announced that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will perform a benefit concert during this year?s festival June 4. Proceeds will go toward St. Luke Hospital?s new radiology unit.
