n The city of Hillsboro celebrated its 120th birthday during the annual Family/Folk Festival with a variety of activities, including a street dance Friday night on Main Street. W.C. Edgar and his band provided the music.
n Gerald Henderson marked his retirement as superintendent of Marion-Florence schools following a six-year run.
n Tabor College graduated 130 students Saturday, with Brent Warkentin, a Mennonite Breth?ren pastor from Wichita, as the commencement speaker.
n The Hillsboro boys won their second straight regional track meet title this weekend in Cheney, while the girls placed second.
n Marion High qualified three athletes for the state meet in Wichita this coming weekend: Jessica DeForrest in the 3,200-meter run, Gavin Moore in the 3,200, and Casey Nelson in the pole vault.
n Two Hillsboro High School alums were among the class inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Tabor College. They were Grace Jaworsky, a three-sport athlete at Tabor during the late 1970s, and Ron Klaassen, a football and track standout in the late 1960s. Gary Myers, longtime coach and athletic director at Tabor, also was inducted.
n Leroy Wetta, county commissioner from Peabody, announced he would not seek reelection this fall.

n Kenneth ?Bud? Bruce, longtime community leader and publisher of the Hillsboro Star-Journal for 34 years, died May 22 at age 84.
n The valedictorians at Hills?boro High School this year were David Enns, Jennifer Hagen and Noah Leleck.
n Hillsboro High School qualified 10 athletes for the state track meet. Meanwhile, Ryan Bina was the fifth-place medalist in state golf, singles players Michael Hagen and Jared Hefley each won one match in state tennis and the HHS baseball and softball teams each lost in the regional finals. The baseball team ended its first season with a 12-8 record under coach Phil Oelke.
n The USD 410 Board of Educa?tion has decided to convert two of the racquetball courts at Robert C. Brown Gymnasium into a wrestling practice room. Hillsboro and Marion are running a combined program and have been using a building at the county fairgrounds for practice.
