n Almost 40 people came to the Hillsboro High School commons May 4 to hear the first public presentation about the recent formation of a charitable foundation intended to serve the Hillsboro community and the benevolent desires of its current and former residents. The initial five-member board has named it the Hillsboro Community Foun?da?tion.
n A mare and her colt that fell into a sink hole on railroad property west of Hillsboro were rescued unharmed in the early morning hours of May 6, thanks to the joint effort of law enforcement personnel and volunteers. The horses were owned by Mike Childs Jr.

n Members of First Menno?nite Church, Hillsboro, will dedicate six large cloth banners they have created to celebrate the different seasons of the church year. Each banner is 4 feet wide and 12 feet long.
n Hillsboro High School athlete Carmen Hein, competing at the Hesston Invitational, threw the javelin 114 feet, 9 inches, to set a new school record. She had set the previous mark of 111-11 earlier in the season.
n Workers from Shears Construction, Wichita, dug the basement for the first home to be built in Willow Glen, a new housing development begun by Bruce and Sherry Kunkel.
