n Beginning its 15th year, the Leader?ship Marion County class is changing its focus to leadership development and training. Half of each monthly session still will be spent in ?awareness building? by touring county enterprises, but the other half will be devoted to the leadership classes.

n The Marion city commissioners approved a $25,000 guaranty on the assisted-living facility to be built south of the high school football field.

n Mid-America Marble Products in Marion is planning a Jan. 24 grand opening. The company, owned by David and Laura Yates, custom designs cultured stone used in kitchens, baths and a variety of other areas in homes and commercial buildings.

n After an 0-3 start to the season, the Hillsboro High School girls won their sixth straight game with a 52-15 pasting of Halstead at Brown Gymnasium. Freshman Julianne Chisholm scored 15 points to lead HHS.

Ten years ago

n Larry Nikkel, interim president of Tabor College, has agreed to be a candidate for president on a permanent basis, according to Lyndon Vix, chairman of the school?s board of directors.

n The owners of Baker Bros. Printing Co., a 36-year business that focuses on full-service quick-print projects, and Print Source Direct, a 3-year-old print brokerage and publisher of the Hillsboro Free Press, formalized an alliance last week.

n Brent Kyle and Tim Hodge, Tabor College seniors and Hillsboro High School alums, returned from a semester of study at England?s Oxford University as part of an international honors program sponsored by the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Univer?sities.

n Carol and Moody Lauxman reopened Tiemeier?s Store in Lincolnville, giving the small community grocery service once again after several months without it.

n The Hillsboro High School boys, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, prevailed over No. 3 ranked Wichita Collegiate, 58-28. C.J. Hill scored 18 points to pace the 8-0 Trojans.
