n Dan Holub defeated Max Hayen, 382-292, in Tuesday?s Republican primary election for the District 2 seat on the Marion County Board of Commis?sioners.

n The Hillsboro City Council approved an engineering contract at its Aug. 3 meeting that will start the city on the path to a new sewage-management system.

n A 57-year-old Durham man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff?s office, with assistance from the Hillsboro Police Department, after the man allegedly threatened to kill a Hillsboro woman.

n Keith Harder, a Hillsboro native, concluded 13 years as pastor of First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.

n Four new teachers are preparing for their first year at Unified District 410: Collette Burton, fifth grade; Julie Crocker, middle school Spanish teacher; Sharon Loewen, middle school science; Bob Woelk, high school English.

n Amy Ratzlaff, a Hillsboro native, was named volleyball coach at Tabor College. She is a 1994 graduate of Bethel College.

n Inheriting only 17 players this fall, new head football coach Tim McCarty said he has recruited an additional 40 to 43 athletes for the upcoming season.

n Susan Judd opened a new preschool and day-care in Hillsboro called Lucky Ducks.
