Reunion will soon be upon us

The annual HHS All-School Reunion is near. Be looking for this year?s edition of the Alumni Asso?ciation Oracle that is being mailed this week. It has the details of this year?s event Saturday, May 26, in the fellowship hall at the Hills?boro MB?Church.

As I have said in the past, we have no way of making sure everyone gets this publcation in the mail. It is virtually impossible to keep up with all the addresses, so please share the information with your classmates and friends. We do get updated addresses from some of the classes that are planning special reunions each year.

I didn?t finish telling about our trip to the Pacific Northwest in last week?s column. About 2 a.m. Tuesday, on the way home from the Kansas City airport, we were stopped along I-35 somewhere between Ottawa and Emporia. I knew I wasn?t speeding so didn?t know why we were being pulled over. Found out our tag light had burned out and received a warning to fix it as soon as possible.

We also learned we had so many proof of insurance papers in the glove box that we couldn?t find the current one. A word to the wise: Throw away the old ones and only keep the current one in the glove box.

Does anyone keep gloves in the glove box?

?

We also learned that you are not allowed to pump your own gasoline in Oregon. To create jobs, they require that an attendant pump the gas. They don?t clean your windshield or check your oil?they just take your credit card, swipe it at the pump and give it back to you while the gas pumps in. When finished, they pull the nozzle out and you are free to leave.

If you got an offer via e-mail for DSL service that was bundled with your phone service, and it had the following disclaimer, would it make you think twice about signing up for it?

Here?s what it said:

?Offer ends 5/31/2012. Offer applies to new residential High-Speed Internet activations only. The listed High-Speed Internet monthly rate of $14.95/mo. applies to up to 768 Kbps and requires a 12-month-term agreement (after twelve (12) months the rate reverts to the then-current standard rate) and subscription to (name of phone company here) with Unlimited Nationwide Calling plan. An additional monthly fee (including professional installation, if applicable) and separate shipping and handling fee will apply to customer?s modem or router.

?General ? Services and offers not available everywhere. (phone company) may change, cancel, or substitute offers and services, including Locked-In Offer, or vary them by service area, at its sole discretion without notice. Requires credit approval and deposit may be required. Additional restrictions apply.

?Terms and Conditions ? All products and services listed are governed by tariffs, terms of service, or terms and conditions posted at nameofphonecompany.com.

?Taxes, Fees, and Surcharges ? Applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges include a Carrier Universal Service Charge, National Access Fee or Carrier Cost Recovery surcharge, a one-time High-Speed Internet activation fee, a one-time voice service activation fee, and state and local fees that vary by area and certain in-state surcharges. Cost recovery fees are not taxes or government-required charges for use. Taxes, fees, and surcharges apply based on standard monthly, not promotional, rates. Call for a listing of applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges.

?Monthly Rate ? Monthly rate applies while customer subscribes to all qualifying services. If one (1) or more services are cancelled, the standard monthly fee will apply to each remaining service.

?High-Speed Internet ? As determined by service location, an early termination fee will apply as either a flat $99 fee or the applicable monthly recurring service fee multiplied by the number of months remaining in the minimum service period, up to $200. Customers must accept High-Speed Internet Subscriber Agreement prior to using service. Download speeds will range from 85% to 100% of the listed download speeds due to conditions outside of network control, including customer location, websites accessed, Internet congestion, and customer equipment.

?Private, Direct Connection and Speed Claims ? Direct connection and/or speed claims are based on providing High-Speed Internet customers with a dedicated, virtual-circuit connection between their homes and the name of phone company central office.

?Home Phone with Unlimited Nationwide Calling ? Service applies to one (1) residential phone line with direct-dial, local and nationwide long distance voice calling from home phone, including Alaska, Puerto Rico, Guam, and U.S. Virgin Islands; excludes commercial use, call center, data and facsimile services (including dial-up Internet connections, data services, and facsimile; each may be billed at $0.10/min?ute), conference lines, directory and operator assistance, chat lines, pay-per-call, calling card use, or multi-housing units. Usage will be monitored for compliance and service may be suspended/terminated for noncompliance. An additional charge may be assessed to customer if usage consistently exceeds 5,000 minutes/mo. International calling billed separately.?
