Let’s alter our clocks each week?

My favor?ite time of the year is when the time changes in my favor, as it did on Sunday. It?s then easy to get up early. Unfortu?nately, the body clock adjusts and it is back to normal in about a week.

I once said I thought we should have a time change every weekend. In fact I mentioned it the other day and no one had heard me say it before?or least didn?t remember it.

The way it would work is the time would spring forward on Friday night and then fall back again on Sunday night for an extra hour before going back to work on Monday.

That would only work, though, if one has the weekend off.

I am amazed at all of the corn piled up in the ?hockey rink? just north and west of the Cooperative Grain & Supply elevator. I wonder how they pull the tarp over all that grain. When the tarp was pulled over the other day, it looked like one huge circus tent.

Maybe CG&S should have a contest to see who could guess how many bushels or kernels of corn are stored there.

Since we print our newspaper in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, we won?t be able to include the election results in time for this issue. But we plan to post the results on our Web site on Tuesday night just as soon as they are available.

For some time now we have been updating our Web site with breaking news and are finding that people are noticing and reading this information as it appears.

If it is more convenient for you to subscribe to our RSS feed, you can be notified of updates via e-mail just as soon as something new is posted.

We made a conscious choice to mail the Free Press on Tuesday at the time we started publishing more than 10 years ago. It wasn?t because it was more convenient for us but because it would allow for the paper to be delivered on Wednesday, which gives our advertisers? ads one more day to work than a Thursday delivery would.

Since most holidays fall on Monday, it has meant those holidays are a work day for some of us.

Since Veterans Day is on a Tuesday this year, we will publish on Monday next week to keep our paper on schedule.

We are honored to include the names of nearly 2,000 veterans with Marion County ties in this week?s paper, and to salute them for their service and sacrifice so we can enjoy the many freedoms we have.

Some of us were very happy after the KU-KSU football game in Lawrence this past Saturday.

The weather couldn?t have been any better?well, actually it could have been 10 degrees cooler.

I can remember sitting in a cold rain?and not that long ago?watching my Jayhawks get pounded by the Wildcats.

There has to be a way to make the game more competitive and I?m sure someone will figure it out soon.

I just realized I have never not had health insurance in my entire life. But that doesn?t really matter if you happen to use it for its intended purpose. State law allows the insurance companies to increase your premiums by 15 percent annually based on claims history.
