High hopes with start of football

If you are a football fan, this fall will be a great time to be alive. I?m excited about the return of Mike Gardner at Tabor College and with the arrival of Turner Gill and his new staff at KU. I have all but dismissed the Kansas City Chiefs and don?t plan on watching much of them.

With Bill Snyder in his second year back at K-State, I wouldn?t be surprised if they have great success. And it?s a good thing that one of our own, Wade Weibert, is leading the charge on the offensive line.

Now, if I could just get my HD TV back to working like it should. One month after the warranty expired, our HDMI module went on the fritz, at least that?s my diagnosis. Since I paid for it with a credit card, I do have an additional year extended warranty, which is one of the benefits associated with that card.

Accessing the benefit is another story. When I called the number to access my extended warranty, they show I do not have the benefit. When I called the card company, they say I do.

I have called the extended warranty company more than once, and they say it will take five to 10 days for the benefit to show up on my behalf. It has now been three weeks and nothing has changed.

Given the latest battle I?ve had with the IRS, it?s definitely time for a flat tax. They sent me a refund last year for no apparent reason, and which I didn?t request. Now they want it back with penalty and interest. I think I?m up to seven letters regarding this issue.

With the present tax code, everything is in shades of gray and nothing is certain except that some large corporations have tax breaks created just for them by their favorite congressmen.

If there?s a politician running for office on the flat-tax platform, that person would have my vote.

I was scanning some HHS yearbooks to get them ready to put on the HHS All-School Reunion Facebook page. Looking through the ads in the back of the books, which were around 1970, I noticed that more than half of the businesses that advertised at the time are no longer around.

Many that are still around have changed ownership along with the business name.

I heard that a couple overseeing the recycle center closed the padlocks, then realized they were inside the fence and had no key to get back out. And no cell phones on them to call anyone. The only option was to crawl over the fence.

I wish I had been there to witness it. Stuff like this happens every day. Just not to the same people.

Phone conversation?.

Doctor, my wife is pregnant and her contractions are two minutes apart.

Is this her first child?

No, this is her husband.

I noticed Red Green is coming to Wichita. I wondered out loud how much the tickets might be. Nancy said I would only need to know how much one ticket was.

I?m guessing women just don?t get this guy?s humor.

?

My favorite Red Green antic was using an electric mixer to turn his truck windows into power windows. He threw away the hand crank and used the mixer to power the windows.

Why didn?t I think of that?
