Basketball teams on the move

It?s amazing that Tabor College men?s and women?s basketball teams are going to the NAIA playoffs after claiming KCAC?tournament championships last week. Also big news is that the Trojans boys? and girls? teams are both going to state together for the first time since 1999.

It?s a big commitment by Tabor College to send two teams hundreds of miles to play basketball and also for the fans to attend. Too bad the NAIA didn?t schedule the tournaments so fans could attend both games. The Tabor teams play on the same day and are about seven hours apart by car.

For Trojan fans the trip to Manhattan is a bit farther than Hutchinson, but Bramlage Coliseum is a bigger stage for the players, in my view. I would rather play in a Big 12 arena, if it were me.

Nancy and I just got back from a quick trip to Delft and Mountain Lake, Minn., for the release of the new book, ?A Culture of Call,? by Elaine Kroeker, about the Carson MB Church in Delft on behalf of the Carson Center for Global Education at Tabor College.

We left about 1:30 Friday and got back Sunday evening. But while there we packed in a lot of activity.

The event was in the building that formerly housed the Carson church. It is now the Carson Meeting House and the Underground, a coffee house in the basement for community members.

?

At the reception afterward, I was privileged to meet some relatives I had never met or even knew existed. They were from my Grand?ma Klaassen?s side of the family with connections to the Hooges. My grandma died 40 years ago this year, and I hadn?t been in the Carson Church building since that time.

?

Thankfully, the weather cooperated and the roads were dry until the last two miles into Delft.

We rented a house in Mountain Lake named the Red Brick Inn for Saturday night and had quality time with sister Elaine, niece Jeanette and her boys, Hunter and Justin.

It was an amazing property with more knick knacks on the walls than you could shake a stick at. Lots of interesting memorabilia about the town, including photos and newspaper clippings.

?

Snow is everywhere in Mountain Lake as they have been through a very cold and snowy winter. In some places the snow was piled as high as 20 feet.

?

You can tell it?s spring when you see Tabor College students walking to class early on a chilly morning wearing shorts, T-shirts and flip flops.

I am finding out that many my age are experiencing (or have experienced) rotator cuff problems like I have had for the past five months. I hope a solution is coming soon.
