Another memorable Christmas

This will be a Christ?mas to remember. The Camelis drove in from Atlanta last Wednesday with the goal of being here in time for the tip-off of the KU vs. California game. They walked in a few minutes earlier.

Even Wolfie came along, but he spent the weekend at the Hillsboro Animal Clinic. I?m sure he got along fine as everyone is his friend.

?

When the Camelis arrived I saw their big cooler and asked if they had brought pizza along. I didn?t get a straight answer at the time but didn?t think my favorite food of all time would have been in there.

As it turned out I got a half dozen frozen Cameli?s Pizza calzones for Christmas, just the way I like them: with sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions.

?

We played games like Chinese checkers, which I noticed were made in the USA The game we have is old enough that it was still made here.

Catch Phrase also was a hit. It was really fun with two teams comprised of three generations.

?

Recently I stayed with the boys my sister and brother-in-law in Newton take care of while they went to a Sunday school Christmas party.

I asked the little one how old he was to make conversation. His answer was 4.Then I asked him when he was going to be 5. He looked at me like I was an idiot and said, ?On my next birthday.?

?

I always look forward to a new year approaching at our media company. This is the time when one looks back at what could be improved and what kind of things we will be implementing in the new year.

And with the most terrific staff in the world, it will be an exciting year.

?

A Saturday Christmas is the perfect scenario for the newspaper. It gives everyone three days off and the routine isn?t thrown off much at all. Next year?s Sunday Christmas will be about the same.

?

It was my job to come up with a gift for the boys this year. My first thought was BB guns, which didn?t get a positive response from Nancy. I checked with the boys? mother, though, and got approval.

To make sure they didn?t shoot their eyes out, I also bought some safety goggles.

The air guns were a big hit. After they opened gifts I went to the office and got some cardboard from the paper shipments and stapled them to the fence on our deck. Then I made some bull?s-eye targets and printed out some ?rats? and also tacked them up. Then I duct taped some pop cans to the cardboard and they were all set.

Louie got a camcorder for Christmas so he made a video of the target shooting and it is already posted on YouTube.

?

With all of the electronic stuff everyone has these days it was hard to find an open outlet in the house for charging batteries, etc.

?

It didn?t work out for Dan and Katie to be here this year but we?re planning to all be together for next Christmas.

?

I just read an e-mail from our free newspaper association that the post office is going to allow saturation mail, like ours, to be sent without addressing city routes. That will be a big time saver and change we can believe in.
