We have declined over past 70 years

Aug. 14 was an important date because 70 years ago on that date all fighting in Japan ended the second world war because the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on Aug. 6 and another atomic bomb on Nagasaki Aug. 9.

What happened 70 years ago has changed the course of world history. Never before had such weapons of mass destruction been used.

I am a baby boomer like so many others of my generation who were born after the soldiers came home. My dad was a Marine who fought in Iwo Jima. He witnessed the famous raising of the flag when he was there, and he was blessed to be among the few who survived Iwo. He received two Purple Hearts in the war.

As a child, I heard him talk about the war? things I never heard taught when I was in school. Now, 70 years later, where is America? What has happened after all the celebration and parades of 70 years ago marking the end of the world?s most destructive war? What has happened to the U.S.? Are we still one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all? Or have we drifted so far from our Christian roots that wealth and money have become our god?

?God Bless America? was a beautiful and favorite song?why did we then ban prayer in public schools? Have we become better, or have we become worse since banning prayer?

We can see the ?fruits? and the ?new morality? by broken marriages and homes. We legalize immorality so we can stop our conscience from bothering us about baby killing (abortion) and homosexual coupling. We lust for things (idols) to the tune of trillions of dollars that we know we can?t pay back?and we are kidding ourselves that we won?t collapse. It is inevitable.

Unless we repent and turn back to God we will not continue to exist as a nation. It cannot turn its back on God without judgment and consequences.
