Letters to the Editor (8-15-18)

As requested I am writing in to your “opinion” section on the county fair. The fair has dwindled to almost nothing and as an active member in the community with a family here are some things we would like to see to boost attendance.

A carnival, a dance after the Saturday night rodeo with a beer garden, a parade that involves surrounding towns (school bands, cheerleaders, businesses, etc) a pancake or biscuit and gravy feed hosted by the chamber or a non profit affiliation, a chili cook-off or bbq competition, vendors and booths with everything from food to crafts to businesses. There is absolutely no reach or tap into the community being utilized.

Why is no one using the many resources available? We have an active Legion, Tabor college, Butler Community College, many area shops and businesses. Even the rodeo has fizzled with lack of participants. More bullring and saddle bronc would be great. Our family would support and attend all of these things if available.
