Relay for Life plans changes for 2011

Relay season is upon us. The Relay For Life committee has begun planning for the 2011 Relay For Life.
We are excited to announce this year?s theme as ?Relay Remodel!? As times change, we are sometimes hesitant to change how we do things. We get caught up in the ?this is how we have always done it? mode and forget to look outside the box.
This year the committee is excited to try some new things, make some changes and continue with some of the oldies but goodies.
A big change this year will be the date of the event. Typically, Relay has been hosted in June. This year?s event will take place April 29-30 at Warrior Stadium in Marion.
A new concept we are going to implement is ?Relay Bucks.? Teams can earn Relay Bucks throughout the planning period by participating in a variety of meetings and events. Prior to Relay, teams will be able to ?buy? some special privileges for the night of Relay.
In previous years we have had the Survivor Dinner the night of Relay. Last year we had a soup and pie supper after Relay.
This year we will be hosting a Survivor Brunch a few weeks prior to Relay. Survivors and their family and friends are invited to attend. Survivors will receive their T-shirts at the brunch to wear for the Survivor Lap at Relay.
One thing we will continue with this year is the silent auction at Relay. Last year each team was encouraged to put together a basket of goodies to auction off. This was a huge hit with teams as it gave them the opportunity to increase their fundraising. We look forward to seeing what teams can come up with this year.
If you would like to be a part of our ?Relay Remodel,? mark your calendars for Wednesday, Dec. 1. We will kick off the new Relay season with a party and informational meeting at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Marion Family Physicians Clinic.
