Budget request was misreported

In the June 28 edition of the Free Press, it was stated that the Marion Historical Museum submitted a budget request for $12,600 to the Marion City Council that included “purchasing a car.” This is incorrect.

A budget increase of $2,600 was requested to support salary and operating expenses needed to expand the season the museum is open. We have no need of a vehicle and never requested one. However, expanding our season of operation from five to seven months would enable the museum to better represent Marion and serve our schools and public.

Thank-you for allowing us to clarify this issue.
