HCF funds will aid water plaza project
The Hillsboro Community Plaza committee would like to express our gratitude for receiving tremendous support from the Hillsboro Community Foundation, Hillsboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Hillsboro Kiwanis and many community members for Phase 1 of the plaza, which will include a splash pad, restroom facility, seating and shade.
The committee’s grant submission was recently selected by the Hillsboro Community Foundation and awarded $2,500 from the Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Hillsboro toward the project. The foundation has also provided additional financial and organizational support, allowing the project to be designated as a 501(c) (3).
The Hillsboro Convention and Visitors Bureau also recently awarded the project $3,000 of funding to help support its tourism endeavors, and the Hillsboro Kiwanis generously gave $500 during the HCF’s Giving Tuesday event as part of its pledge to grow Hillsboro and support area youth.
These contributions are in addition to the many private gifts already provided from generous community members.
The splash pad portion of the project will encourage area youth to be active and enjoy the outdoors during warmer temperatures. The dual purpose of the water spray cycle is programmed to conserve water by touch activation and timed cycle duration while also guiding the users to continually move throughout the pad to enjoy its many dynamic features.
The Community Plaza will be in the Hillsboro Downtown District, likely located at the head of the future biking/hiking trail. Splash pad features in other cities are proven to increase traffic to nearby businesses and generate new sales tax revenue. It will also support large events such as the Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair and Marion County Fair parade.
If interested in directly contributing to the project, donors may make a tax deductible gift directly to the foundation with checks made payable to HCF with “splash pad” in the memo, mailed to P.O. Box 273, Hillsboro, KS 67063, or via the new online link at HCF’s website at https://donate.centralkansascf.org/product/splash-park-fund/ .
More information on the Hillsboro Community Plaza will be shared soon via signage, a designated website and Facebook.
We are very excited to be working on providing a splash pad and gathering space for the community; making Hillsboro a viable option for young families, supporting downtown revitalization and tourism endeavors.
