Thanks for asking

for S-N-C to sing

I want thank former Hillsboro High School choir member David Vogel for inviting the current Spirit-N-Celebration members to join him for the Down-Home Christmas Concert.

It was a great experience for the students, as well as being a wonderful evening for the community. Thank-you for supporting the arts in Hillsboro.

Support made for a successful event

A heartfelt thank-you to all those who attended the Down-Home Christmas Concert on Dec. 1. This was the second year to do the concert, and ticket sales from last year more than doubled to about 260 tickets sold.

After expenses were paid, over $1,800 was raised from tickets sales and other donations. These funds will be divided evenly and donated to the USD 410 music department and Hillsboro Public Library.

I also need to express my gratitude to the small army that took part in making the evening a success: Lynn Just and the members of Spirit-N-Celebration; musicians Shawn Knopp, Bruce Major, David Martins and Brad Vogel; the Chamber of Commerce and Kessler Kreations for selling tickets, the facilities management team at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, those who helped to promote the event, and the many, many individuals who assisted in food service, decorating and technical support.

Many of you went above and beyond, and this concert would not have been possible without your contributions of time and, in some cases, money.

Finally, a huge thank-you to the board of the Hillsboro Arts Council, which made an incredibly generous contribution toward the concert. These funds covered a majority of the expenses for the event, allowing more proceeds from ticket sales to go back into the community.

I hope all those who attended enjoyed the concert as much as I enjoyed doing it. Merry Christmas and God bless.

David Vogel
