Nancy and I made a quick trip to Iowa last week for my Midwest Free Com?munity Papers board meetings. As it turned out, I was not able to drive like I thought I could, so she had to drive the whole way. The doc says it?s not wise for me to drive for another six weeks. Bummer.
?
And I get to wear the sling for two more weeks. Not what I wanted to hear. So I am sitting around the house these days without it, practicing for July 28 when I am supposed to be out of it.
?
So we were sitting in a restaurant and I mentioned that my fingernails would need to be clipped fairly soon. She looks at me without missing a beat and says, ?I?ll try to find someone to do it for you.? I guess you can see that things are wearing a little thin around here.
?
They are telling me that I can?t drive until Aug. 25. So that means the whole summer is finding a ride from here to there.

The Camelis and our grandsons from Atlanta spent the past week in Colorado hiking and climbing mountains, including a ?Four?teener,? and biking between Breckenridge and Aspen. In the meantime, we were dog-sitting with Wolfie, their pet. He was a good boy for the most part, but we didn?t understand what some of his barking meant.

We learned Saturday night that there?s an app that lets you show your camera photos and cloud photos on the TV. It is really a cool thing that you can sit on your sofa in front of the TV and show all of the photos on your camera. All it takes is a HDMI Chromecast and a Wi-Fi connection in the house. The app is called Photo Cast for Chromecast. It also will show video that is on your phone or in the cloud?even better.

Our youngest grandson, Louis, has grown as tall as I am, but I think I might be shrinking a little. It?s amazing how they change when you don?t see them often. He even has a learner?s permit and will drive any chance he gets if an adult will cooperate. In fact. he drove me to the office to finish my column this week.
?
The minute my column hit the streets last week I received an email that I had forgotten a restaurant. I didn?t mention the City Cafe, which was located where the Real Estate Center is now. And I didn?t mention Lee?s Drive-Inn. Nancy got her first job working for owners Lee and Verda Albrecht.
?
I used to pick up Nancy at closing time, and many times I got to eat all the ice cream that was being cleaned out of the ice cream machine. Maybe that?s why my arteries are clogged now.
?
Hillsboro also had the Wheel In Cafe on D Street, which later became the Iron Kettle and CC?s Pizza. There also was an Iron Kettle down?town at the Learning Center location. The one on the highway was consumed by fire in the late 1990s.
