Winter weary

Yes, we needed the moisture, even though we?re told a foot of the light, fluffy snow we received last week won?t amount to much water when it melts. And yes, this latest extended dip into the thermal deep freeze may have finally killed off some of the insect pests that were already planning their attack for the coming summer. That?s a good thing for farmers and the rest of us human beings.

So, while we acknowledge the benefits that fell upon us in this latest round of challenging winter weather, let?s be plain about the truth: We can?t wait until spring. It?s a longing we hear more and more with each passing day of our cold and dreary existence. We are Kansans, so we will look to the stars through difficulties…while waiting impatiently for a warming sun. ?DR
