Winners

We salute the Hillsboro High School softball team and coaches for winning the Class 3A state tournament this weekend in Manhat?tan. Hillsboro has had very competitive softball teams almost from the time the progam was launched in 1998. But it took 15 years to achieve the first state championship. In fact, it took 11 seasons just to get to state for the first time. This year marked the team?s fourth consecutive appearance.

HHS softball has come of age, and now the program can take its place among the school?s state championship teams in other girls? sports, including basketball, volleyball and track and field.

Hillsboro alums and Trojan fans can be proud of the strong heritage of success HHS has developed in girls? athletics since the modern era began in the early 1970s. It stands as a testimony to the school district?s long commitment to equality and excellence regardless of gender and whatever the endeavor.

Once more we say, way to go, girls. You make us proud not only for what you have achieved, but also for the classy way you pursue it. ?DR
