Tradition and innovation come together each year during the Marion County Fair. For people with a personal history in the county, the fair marks the beginning of the end of summer. Many aspects of the fair are familiar?the opening parade on Wednesday, the 4-H competitions, rodeo shows, watermelon feeds, church fair suppers…. Continuity brings a certain stability to our lives, especially for those of us who have long histories here. But each year, the fair board looks for something new to keep the event fresh and appeal to more people. This year?s carnival literally is the biggest change, plus the debut of a Sweet Adelines group from Newton?and more.
Savor tradition, enjoy the new. Fair week is a good week. ?DR
