?Tis the season

The 19th annual Marion County Toy Run from Marion to Hillsboro on Saturday unofficially kicked off the season of thankfulness and sharing. The effort of participants to gather and deliver toys for children from deserving families should remind those of us who live comfortably to be thankful for the privilege. Ultimately, it also should prompt us to begin thinking how we might share some of our abundance with people who have less.

Much of the northeastern U.S. is facing unprecedented loss and destruction from Hurricane Sandy. Some of us will be moved to contribute to the relief effort there as thousands of people wait for the simple luxury of electrical service and basic housing.

Families in Marion County have needs as well, though often hidden from view. Families and Commun?ities Together (FACT) of Marion County, formerly known as Communities in Schools, is uniquely positioned to identify and meet these needs but could use our help. If you know of a Marion County family in need of Christmas gifts for their children, contact Ashlee Gann, executive director, with names and gender/ages of the children at 620-947-3184. ?DR
