Tasty morsel

The announcement Monday by the Kansas Depart?ment of Transportation that street projects for Hillsboro and Marion have been approved for federal stimulus-package funding is good news for these two communities. It also hits the target President Obama intended to hit: Create the possibility for additional jobs by helping to fund needed, but otherwise unaffordable, infrastructure projects.

Hillsboro will benefit from a badly needed reworking of two blocks of Ash Street, the town?s major entry way off of U.S. Highway 56. Likewise, the surfacing of Cedar Street from Kellison Avenue to U.S. 56 at Marion will provide a similar boost for that city.

The political and philosophical debate surrounding the president?s stimulus spending will continue in our coffeeshop conversations. But we?re realizing one thing already: It?s easier to swallow the whole enchilada when at least a morsel of it comes to you. ?DR
