Style points

A unique week brought two of our state?s national politicians to Hills?boro within three days of each other. With it came a unique opportunity to observe their political demeanor. Rep. Tim Huelskamp led a small town hall gathering early Monday morning while Sen. Jerry Moran spoke at a Kiwanis Club luncheon Thursday.

While both Republicans espouse a similar conservative perspective, their styles could hardly be more contrasting. Huels?kamp personifies the consummate outsider, railing against the idiocy and excesses of the Washington bureaucracy and liberal Demo?crats in particular. Moran is the more thoughtful and relational statesman, determined to hold his ground, but open to viewing his opponents as co-laborers in a difficult struggle where neither ?side? has complete truth. For our money, Moran represents our best hope for real change.
