New deal

USD 411 Board of Education believes Goessel High School students deserve a $3.3 million facility improvement. It?s hard not to agree with their assessment following a recent tour of the problem areas that will be improved. Add to that several side projects that will make the school safer and more efficient for students and teachers.

An interesting component to the project is its timing. The district has a couple of years of bond payments left on its previous building project, but officials opted to move ahead now to take advantage of the state?s bond aid program…while it still exists. The program will provide $1.78 million?or 40 percent of the project cost. Combine that with historically low bond interest rates, and the impact will be less than $17 a year on a $75,000 home. It?s not our call to make, but it sounds like a deal patrons would be wise not to refuse April 2. ?DR
