In the grand scheme of things, attempting to set a world record for the most marshmallows roasted simultaneously at the same venue may not be of historical significance. Some people may think the mega-roast at Marion County Lake on Saturday was downright silly. Perhaps it was. But at the same time, it was apparent that an energy was radiating from that place that had nothing to with that long pile of burning tree limbs. Whether having 1,282 people toasting marshmallows at the same will be validated as a world record by the folks at the Guinness Book of World Records is ultimately of secondary importance. What we observed Saturday was a county coming together for a creative, fun and cooperative endeavor that left all of us feeling a little worn out, but also good about our connection.
