Making an impact

It was energizing to watch last week as the Hillsboro Community Foundation distributed a record $18,300 to 10 worthy organizations through the Hillsboro Area Impact Fund and Kansas Health Foundation Fund. That?s $1,400 more than was awarded last year. It?s clear the dividends are paying off?in terms of growth in the endowment earnings, but more so in the assistance HCF is able to pass on to valuable programs that meet so many needs, from children through seniors citizens.

The vision for community foundations is growing. Joining Hillsboro under the organizational umbrella of the Central Kansas Community Foundation are similar efforts active in Florence, Goessel and Peabody.

We salute the local volunteer board members of these community-based efforts that exist to promote and facilitate charitable giving in support of projects and programs that enhance the quality of life in these hometowns.

We may never be able to fully measure the impact of these efforts over the long haul, but it?s clear that many lives will be made better in the short run, and that?s certainly an investment worth making. ?DR
