Leave a legacy

People can make a lasting impact on a community in many ways, from public service to entrepreneurial success. But with time, even the best-known community supporters of one generation become fading memories, and the generations that follow know little if anything about them. With the creation of the Hillsboro Community Foundation five years ago, more people than you might think can make an impact that endures far beyond their own generation. Establishing an endowment to provide funds for worthwhile causes helps keep a community strong long after the benefactor leaves the scene.

Goessel and Peabody have established similar foundations in their communities as well. We commend the people who have committed their time, energy and skills to launch such efforts. Perhaps additional communities in the county will be inspired to follow suit because these foundations provide an opportunity for people with hometown roots?whether still established or transplanted in other places?to express their gratitude and vision in a tangible way.

Consider a gift that truly keeps on giving. ?DR
