We can be proud that two of the six nursing homes in Kansas that were named PEAK Award winners last week came from Marion County (see story Page 10). Parkside Homes in Hillsboro and Bethesda Home in Goessel received the award from the Kansas Department on Aging for work they did within the last year to advance the care of the elderly from an institutional approach to a more personal, resident-centered approach. Parkside is a two-time winner of the award, which was begun in 2002.
When we realize that Salem Home in Hillsboro has won the award twice in previous years, we can feel good knowing that Marion County is on the cutting edge in senior care in this state. The ?culture change? movement has been instrumental in restoring the dignity and worth of elderly people needing special care. Congratulations to the folks at Parkside and Bethesda who have carried the torch at their respective homes. Lead on. ?DR
