Marion and Hillsboro basketball fans will enjoy a treat this week as the girls? basketball teams from both high schools compete at the Class 3A state tournament. According to Marion sources, this will mark the first trip to Hutchinson since 1992, and only the second in the modern era. It?s a great achievement for a team led by three four-year starters: Julie Zeiner, Lindsay Hett and Kayley Heerey. We wish them well.
Hillsboro has made 14 trips to Hutch during the same era. What?s unusual is the achievement of two seniors, Dakota Kaufman and Candace Weinbrenner, who will be playing in their third state tournament. Weinbrenner, who stepped away from basketball as a sophomore, will be three-for-three as a Trojan starter at state.
