The new academic year for Marion County schools starts more sporadically this year than in recent memory. Hillsboro begins tomorrow while Peabody-Burns will be the last to begin?after Labor Day. Cost-saving strategies have prompted some of the variety among the districts.
Still, the start of school marks a radical transition in many households?a measure of joy for some parents and students, and less so for others. Everyone has a part to play in a successful school year. Certainly administrators and teachers are critical players in the educational endeavor. But we should not underestimate the role of parents?not just as encouragers and cheerleaders for their children?s endeavors, which is important, but as pivotal players in the creation of a healthy and structured home environment that is so critical for success in school as well as in life.
Let?s apply ourselves well. ?DR
