The annual Business Appreciation Program through the Kansas Department of Commerce is a wonderful way of raising awareness about the good things happening in our local community.
This year Hillsboro Ford-Mercury Inc., Greenhaw Pharmacy, Kid?s Connection and Salem Home were recognized at a special Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week.
Historically, the Hillsboro Development Corp. has nominated local companies and organizations as part of its own business appreciation efforts.
Clint Seibel, HDC executive director, talked about how highlighting one or more businesses each year is an excellent opportunity to showcase our entrepreneurs.
These are our neighbors who care about the community as much as we do.
These businessmen and women are available to help any and all fundraising projects or when their financial support is needed for a new foundation or simply when someone needs volunteers.
We ask our business owners to open their checkbooks and give to a cause, and they do it because they are connected and because they care.
As consumers, we too have a responsibility to support our local businesses.
It is with a lot of pride that we congratulate our local organizations for the good deeds they do.
It?s also uplifting to know that many of these small business owners give because they believe it is the right thing to do.
These business owners are loyal to their town, and without them, many charitable groups in Hillsboro would suffer.
When we help one another we are impacting our local economy in the most significant and positive way possible. ?Patty Decker
