The 79th annual Marion County Fair is set to offically begin today with the annual parade down Hillsboro?s Main Street at 6:30 p.m. This year?s gathering returns many of the traditional events and activities of fairs past, including the rodeo, demolition derby and 4-H competitions. But the buzz this year is for an ambitious first-year undertaking: Fire Jam ?09, a three-night concert series featuring artists Kebo Cyrus, T. Graham Brown and headliner Bucky Covington of ?American Idol? fame.
We salute the Marion County Fire Chiefs Associa?tion and the fair board for working together to expand the attraction of the fair beyond our county borders while simultaneously supporting the work of our volunteer fire departments by raising funds for a training center. Even if you?re not a country-music fanatic, this event is worth supporting with our dollars. ?DR
