Can-do spirit lives here

In the 2008 Hillsboro Annual Report that we?ve inserted in this week?s issue of the Free Press, you will encounter the economic lifeblood of the Hillsboro community. In addition to the abundant ads that trumpet the wide range of products and services our local businesses offer, we again are running profiles of every and any business that chooses to participate?free of charge.

This year?s edition includes right at 90 profiles. That?s a record number for us. But we know full well that even though the response was great, not every local business is included. We wish we had them all, and we?ll try again next year.

We encourage you to browse through this compendium of commerce. More than a business guide, it?s a testimony to the entrepreneurial spirit that resides in this community. Having entered the ?real world? of business when we launched this newspaper in 1998, we know the challenge of operating a small business. We?ve experienced the financial stresses. We?re all too familiar with the daily challenges and the long hours. We know the hard knocks, the successes and the disappointments.

We know the freedom of being your own boss, and the satisfaction of persevering against the odds. It isn?t easy. But it?s worth the effort. The can-do spirit is at home in this town. ?DR
