Be safety savvy

As a new academic year begins this week for some of our school districts, it?s time for drivers to heighten their vigilance as they approach schools zones, and anytime they?re cruising down streets during the half hour before and after the school day as students walk and ride bikes between home and school. You never know when or where a youngster will dart across a street without warning.

Changes jointly made last year by USD 410 and the city of Hillsboro to make traffic-flow changes around the elementary school are but one example of what a partnership between school and city can accomplish for the sake of our children?s safety. Now it?s up to parents and the rest of us adults to step up and adhere to those new traffic codes each and every school day for the sake of our children, who are our greatest resource for the present and future. ?DR
