Awareness

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among U.S. women this year, as well as an estimated 60,290 additional cases of in situ (non-evasive) breast cancer. About 40,290 U.S. women are expected to die from the disease.

Last week, we began a three-part series on breast cancer. In our Oct. 12 issue, we profiled Susie Kliewer’s courageous fight. This week, we highlight a significant resource for women who have had mastectomies and want to explore aesthetic resources. Next week, look for our story on the importance of mammograms. We want to see breast cancer eradicated. —DR
