Two men arrested for rape and aggravated endangerment of child

Two men were arrested in a rural area of Marion County around 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, on a charge of rape and aggravated endangerment of a child, according to the Marion County Sheriff?s office on Monday.

Trevor Fugitt, 21, of Hillsboro, and Dylan Cochran, 19, of Marion, allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl between Hillsboro and Peabody, said Sheriff Rob Craft.

Officials became aware of the incident after some of the victim?s friends alerted authorities that something was wrong, Craft said.

Marion County Attorney Susan Robson said there was enough probable cause to arrest Fugitt and Cochran based on what was potentially discovered.

Because not all the facts have emerged yet, both Robson and Craft didn?t want to provide too many details.

Craft said both charges are felonies and could carry serious jail time if the two are convicted.

?This is also not the first contact we have had with these men,? Craft said about the two, but declined to comment further.

Both suspects have court dates with Fugitt?s date July 6 in the Marion County District County and Cochran?s on July 14.

Following the first appearance, Robson said, the attorneys for the two can either waive their preliminary hearing or listen to the evidence that should have enough probable cause to believe they did the crime,? she said.

If one or both of the men should waive their preliminary hearing, Robson said, it would mean they could enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.

?There are a lot of steps because these are felonies,? she said.

In addition to the two current charges, once the evidentiary phase of the case is completed, the sheriff could bring on more charges.

?Our investigation is continuing,? he said.

Bond was set at $20,000 for each defendant, Craft said, but no other details were available.
