Hillsboro, KS – The City of Hillsboro and Mennonite Housing, a non-profit housing organization located in Wichita, have received funding approval from Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) to construct the proposed 24-unit affordable housing Orchard Ridge project located south of Dollar General.
“On behalf of the City of Hillsboro, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Mennonite Housing for the approval of the Orchard Ridge housing project,” said Mayor Lou Thurston. “We look forward to the positive impact this development will have on Hillsboro and its residents. Thank you to Mennonite Housing for their commitment to creating a brighter future for us all.”
The project, Orchard Ridge, has a total development cost of $9,200,000. Construction is projected to start by early 2025 with the initial units available for rent by the end of 2025. Orchard Ridge, would be moderate income housing, sometimes referred to as workforce housing. The development will be comprised of 12 duplex buildings, a clubhouse and maintenance garage.
The duplexes would be two- and three-bedroom units, each with a garage, constructed in an energy efficient manner and include a variety of amenities. A potential second phase could add 12 more duplexes if demand is strong.
Byron Adrian, President/CEO of Mennonite Housing stated, “We look forward to working with the community on this development. We recognize the need that exists in Hillsboro for additional housing and are pleased to be able to help meet that need.”
