Seal-coat project will disrupt traffic

? Hillsboro Main Street and Grand affected.

Main Street in Hillsboro, from D Street north to Third Street, is scheduled to be seal-coated Thursday and Friday of this week, resulting in some inconvenience for local motorists on those two days.

City Administrator Larry Paine said the east half of Main Street, plus all of the 100 block of East Grand Avenue, will be closed to traffic Thursday for the entire day.

The west half of Main Street, including the entire 100 block of West Grand, will be closed all day Friday.

Paine said it is possible the contractor may choose to seal the west half first instead of the east.

Applying the seal coat is an important maintenance project to extend the life of those streets, which were rebuilt in 2005, Paine said. In addition, the seal coat should bring a fresh ?new? look to the downtown area when the project is complete.

Meanwhile, Paine said the project to seal-coat the asphalt areas at the airport was to begin Monday of this week.

Next Monday or Tuesday, he added, Hett Construction of Marion is scheduled to begin working on the project to add exit and entry lanes off U.S. Highway 56 at Adams Street.

?All of a sudden, we?re going to be under construction, and things are going to be a little hairy for a while,? Paine said. ?But it?s always nice when things come together, and these projects are moving along.?
