Safe Kids Day Event on May 28

The Marion County Health Department is holding the first Safe Kids Day from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 28 in the commercial building at the Marion County Fair Grounds in Hillsboro. The event is free and open to ALL families with elementary aged children or younger in Marion County. The event is being put on in collaboration with various community agencies that serve Marion County residents. The purpose of Safe Kids is to educate children and families in our community on how to prevent unintentional injuries.

To start the event, children elementary aged and younger will get a map of all of the safety stations. Children will go to each station where there will be fun hands on activities and educational information about the specific safety topic for parents. The stations will include safety topics such as bike safety, fire safety, water safety, food safety, gun safety, bus safety, medication/poison safety, and farm safety as well as vendor tables. Safety devices such as life jackets, smoke detectors, gun locks, medication disposal bags and more will be available to children and families participating in the event for free. Once children visit each station and fill their map, they will get the opportunity togo swim for free as a family at the Hillsboro Family Aquatics Center. There will also be a story walk and emergency vehicles including fire trucks, ambulance, and sheriff’s patrol car for kids to check out.

“We are excited for this event and hope to see a lot of families there. We also want to thank the many agencies that are working with Safe Kids Marion County to make this event possible,” said Marion County Safe Kid Coordinator Erin Hein.
