Safe Kids Day 2023 considered successful event

Safe Kids Day 2023 was a huge success! Booths at Safe Kids Day were run by 39 different individuals representing 18 different programs or agencies. A total of 273 people came to the event with 169 of them being children.

“At the event, children and families gained knowledge on a wide range of safety topics through hands-on activities and educational materials. Our goal at Safe Kids Marion County, a program of the Marion County Health Department, is to educate families, raise awareness, and create safer environments to protect children,” said Marion County Safe Kids Coordinator Erin Hein.

Families that participated at the event got to go home with life jackets, bike helmets, medication disposal bags, gun locks, smoke detectors and more. Safety devices were purchased through grant funds. $8500 worth of safety devices were distributed to children and families who attended the event.

Hein said, “This event is truly a community effort. I am thankful for the working relationships that I have formed with each of the agencies that joined us for this event. We would like to give a special thank you to USD 408 and USD 408 Rec for the use of their space and one-day pool passes for families that came.”
